Kvindelige Studenters Sangforening and Den norske Studentersangforening, the Univeristy of Oslo's official female and male choirs, perform Johannes Brahms' spectacular Requiem in the beautiful University Aula right in the centre of Oslo. The choirs are among the best in the Nordics and are accompanied by highly skilled soloists and pianists.
Brahms' Requiem (Op. 45) is beautiful and evocative music. The work was written after Brahms' mother died and is different from many other death masses. The lyrics are not in Latin, but in German, and the work does not follow the classical liturgy of a Catholic mass. Brahms focuses less on the mourning of the dead and God's verdict upon them, rather, his work offers comfort for those left behind.
