A good budget for UiO

–  We are pleased to see that this budget invests in higher education and research, and that our concerns about rent for the Life Science building have been heard. We look forward to moving in next year, says Rector Ragnhild Hennum at the University of Oslo.

–  Norway has strong state funding for education and research, and we are satisfied that the government is maintaining this. It is a budget that acknowledges the important role that research and higher education play for the future development of Norway, says Hennum.

There was considerable anticipation as to whether UiO would be compensated for the unforeseen rent related to the Life Sciences Building.

– This decision allows us to continue with our plans for moving into the building, filling it with world-leading research, education, and innovative interdisciplinary collaboration together with our partners at Oslo University Hospital, says Hennum.

Research initiatives and new student places in quantum technology

The government also allocates funds for 50 new student places in quantum technology. Additionally, the budget proposes research initiatives in quantum technology, infrastructure, high-performance computing, and future technologies.

– UiO is at the forefront of future technologies. We are heavily involved in the initiatives on artificial intelligence (AI) launched in June, and with the new student places in quantum technology, we are strengthening our position in this field. We look forward to contributing our knowledge and expertise, which we believe Norwegian society will need in the years to come, concludes Rector Ragnhild Hennum.
