The quality and breadth of research and education places UiO in a unique national position and forms the basis of UiO's status as a leading European research-intensive broad-based university. On Friday, 14 February, 2020, UiO's new strategy, Strategy 2030, was adopted by the University Board.
Four ambitions
The University of Oslo shall:
- promote independent, ground-breaking, long-term research
- educate students with the knowledge, ability and willingness to create a better world
- strengthen its dialogue with the outside world and work to ensure that knowledge is utilised
- be an innovative organisation and an attractive educational institution in which to work and study
The strategy describes some of the social challenges that knowledge and education from UiO must help solve.
Major sustainability challenges - not least the climate crisis - will require efforts from the entire global community. Losses of natural diversity, polarisation, religious conflicts, migration and war are other examples. UiO must take its share of the responsibility to understand, explain and improve our world. The strategy is offensive and commits us to driving the development of knowledge forward by integrating education, research and knowledge in use, says Rector Svein Stølen.
There has been broad involvement and we have received valuable input from both staff and students at the University and from important external players.
A big thank you to everyone who has engaged and contributed with heart and brain. Strategy 2030 points the way forward, but now comes the real job, says Stølen.
