What happens after you report an HSE deviation?
Process
Your immediate supervisor is responsible for following up on HSE deviations that affect you, but it is not always the supervisor who acts as the case handler in the HSE deviation system. Often, an HSE coordinator assumes the case handler role. Therefore, you may be contacted by both your supervisor and the HSE coordinator regarding your reports.
Case handling
- When you register an HSE deviation, the case handler receives a notification about the new case.
- The case handler will review the report and:
- Check if there is information that should be anonymized and make changes if necessary.
- Investigate the case further if more information is needed.
- Suggest new measures if relevant. Not all cases will have specific actions; some types of cases will only be included in statistics. It is also important that these cases are reported.
- If the deviation is very serious or could have led to very serious consequences, a thorough cause analysis may be considered.
- If you have been injured or become ill, your supervisor will follow up with you as an employee and assist in reporting the case to NAV and the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK).
- Safety representatives should be kept informed about HSE deviations within their area of responsibility.
Analysis of HSE deviations
- The HSE deviation you reported will be included in the analysis of HSE deviations at UiO. This means that your reported deviation will be categorized and included in statistics.
- Analyses are regularly discussed in working environment committees (AMU/LAMU) and in leadership meetings. Individual cases are usually not addressed in these forums, except in instances of very serious incidents.
- The analyses are used to help us learn from occurrences so that similar incidents can be prevented in the future.
