The goal of the call is to facilitate the development of educational offerings at UiO in collaboration with our partners in Circle U. The funds provide an opportunity to experiment with innovative methods, such as integrating digital learning formats and short-term mobility.
We are seeking projects that are relevant to the thematic priorities and activities in Circle U.: democracy, global health, climate, artificial intelligence, as well as multiculturalism and multilingualism. We also encourage projects that do not fit directly within these themes to apply.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until 30 June 2026, or as long as funds remain available in the allocation.
What can funding be requested for?
Projects applying for funding must result in either:
- credit-bearing courses or programmes at UiO
or
- educational and exchange offerings that are part of a credit-bearing study programme at UiO
or
- training offerings for employees.
Requirements for the application
The project for which funding is requested:
- Must be based on collaboration with at least one other Circle U. partner.
- Must be open to students from Circle U. partners.
- Must lead to an educational activity that is offered at least twice.
- Must have support from local leadership at the department level.
- The project owner must be a member of the academic staff at UiO.
How much funding can be applied for?
- Units may apply for up to NOK 300,000 to adapt an existing bachelor’s or master’s programme for Open Campus.
- Units may apply for up to NOK 200,000 to adapt an existing course or develop a new course for Open Campus. The course may be offered in various formats, such as online, hybrid, or as a Blended Intensive Program (BIP).
- Units may apply for up to NOK 100,000 to develop collaborative components within existing educational offerings, such as COILs, exchange tracks, hackathons, online resources, or similar.
Examples of how the funds can be used
- Buying out time for the involved academic staff to develop the course
- Covering administrative costs related to the educational offering, such as the admission of Circle U. students
- Salaries for project staff during the development phase of the course
- Development of teaching plans and teaching materials, such as recording and digitising lectures
- Travel and participation in meetings organised by Circle U. and/or our alliance partners, for example participation in meetings in the Knowledge Hubs in Circle U., and similar events
- Hiring learning assistants (students) for the planning and implementation of the educational offering
Evaluation and allocation
Circle U. at UiO evaluates the applications according to the following priorities:
- Adaptation of bachelor’s and master’s programmes
- Development and adaptation of courses
- Collaborative components in existing educational offerings
- Training offerings for employees
Any prioritisation within these categories will be based on Circle U.’s educational portfolio as a whole and on ensuring a balanced distribution of funds across different academic environments and disciplines at UiO. Applications are assessed on a rolling basis, and allocations are made following a decision by the Director of Studies at UiO.
Follow-up and guidance
Projects that receive support will be assigned a dedicated contact person from the Circle U. team, who will provide guidance and support throughout the project period. The Circle U. team at UiO will also assist in finding partners within the alliance where needed.
Project leaders receive the title Academic Chair. As Academic Chairs, they are expected to participate in Circle U.’s Knowledge Hubs and ensure communication with the Academic Directors in the Knowledge Hub to which they belong.
