Outdoor activities

The green spaces at the university offer opportunities for both recreation and activity, both welcome additions to everyday study and work life. Here is an overview of some of the things you can do in the park.

Packed lunch spots

“Matpakkeplasser” (packed lunch spots) is the name of a small, printed leaflet. In this guide, Park Services introduce their favourite spots on campus to bring your packed lunch for a meal outdoors. There is also a short essay about how the outdoor spaces have been shaped over the years.

The Blindern trail

This 2.6 km trail at Blindern takes you around central parts of the campus. The trail is perfect for a walk or a run if you need an energising break during the day.

University art collection

The University of Oslo manages a large at collection, of which several pieces can be found outdoors in the parks and gardens. You can get to know the outdoor sculptures at Blindern or around the University Square in downtown Oslo by looking at the sculpture trails below.

Blindern Student Garden

One of the student organisations at UiO is Blindern Student Garden. They have their own garden on the hill behind the Astrophysics Building on lower Blindern. Here they gather to cultivate flowers, vegetables and berries, using ecological principles.

Species observations

If you are interested, you can help us map what is grows and lives on the university grounds by submitting sightings to Species Observations System (Artsobservasjoner). It might also be exciting to identify wild species with the app Artsorakel.
